Office of Development and Communications

Over 350 guests honored members of the health community at NYAM's 14th Annual Gala.

The Office of Development and Communications is dedicated to fostering public awareness of, and cultivating financial support for, the Academy’s vital research, education and advocacy efforts to improve the health of the public.

The Communications staff works to increase public knowledge of the Academy's research and programs by writing and disseminating press releases to the media and by facilitating press access to the Academy's health experts. Research by Academy scientists has been publicized in nearly 3,600 stories since 2002. Newspapers including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA Today, the Financial Times and The Boston Globe have covered Academy pursuits, as have wire services including the Associated Press, Reuters and Bloomberg News. Televised news coverage has been featured on NBC Nightly News, ABC World News,

Journalists cover a press conference announcing Academy research. The Communications office is responsible for the Academy appearing in hundreds of print and broadcast stories annually.

60 Minutes, the BBC, The News with Brian Williams and CNBC. The Communications staff also manages the content of the Academy's website, www.nyam.org, and coordinates the publication of its Annual Report, its bi-annual newsletter (Notes), and the quarterly Calendar of Events.

The Development staff raises general operating support and seeks program and project specific grants from foundations and corporations, as well as gifts at all levels from individuals. The Development staff also organizes events, such as the Annual Gala and the Stated Meeting, which raise the profile of the Academy and its mission.
